Day 3 - Fly to Lukla to begin your trek! An easy first day on the trail with many photo ops of a gorgeous river valley before overnighting in Phakding (altitude 8563’/2610m).

Day 4 - Today we arrive in Namche Bazaar (11,305’/3446m), the trading hub of the region.

Day 5 - We will be taking a day hike today to help our body slowly acclimate to the higher altitude. Thame is our destination, up a side valley lightly traveled by trekkers in the region. Return to Namche for overnight.

Day 6 - A little higher today up to the village Khumjung, where the views of Ama Dablam, Cholatse, Kangtega and more could easily fill a memory card.

Day 7 - Dole is our destination today, up a V-shaped valley flanked by towering peaks.

Day 8 - We’re more than halfway to our destination when we reach Machermo, nestled into a hanging valley surrounded by rock and ice.

Day 9 - Along the shore of the third Sacred Lake is Gokyo and its commanding views of Cho Oyu, the 6th tallest mountain in teh world right at our doorstep.

Day 10 - Our goal today is to catch sunrise over Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and other 8000m Himalayan peaks from the top of Gokyo Ri. This is our high point for the trek at 17,545’/5347m. A panorama artist could spend their whole life soaking up the breath-taking views.

Is This The Right Photo Tour For Me?

Are you the type of photographer who likes a little adventure in their life but doesn’t go actively seeking danger? Do you enjoy exploring destinations few will ever see? What about a mix of culture and nature subjects?

Then this is the tour for you!

An ideal tour guest will be an active individual but does not need to be running sub 4-minute miles. Being physically fit helps make the trip more enjoyable and by fit I mean you can walk 4 miles without much problem. We take a slow pace (as photographers we used to being last when sightseeing anyway!) so the trek is more about stamina and mental fortitude.

All skill levels of photography are welcome and we shape our instruction to meet your needs. Some guests show up having just bought a camera and need all the basics while others have experience but want to take it up a notch in an area rich in subject matter. Our groups are kept small (6 guest maximum) just for this reason; so everyone can achieve their photographic goals and gain knowledge in a world-class setting.

If you have further questions, send us an email or fill out our contact form. You can also give us a call at 818-284-6142 or Skype Explore.Inspire.Educate and we’d be glad to answer any and all questions about our tours.

Activity Level

While this trek does not require the ropes and techniques of mountaineering, it is a strenuous endeavor. We spend 3-5 hours each day hiking from location to location but we only carry our daypacks with camera gear, water, snacks and windbreaker. Our overnight gear is carried by porters or yaks from teahouse to teahouse, leaving us with just the essentials on our backs.

Elevation gain is kept to a moderate and safe level (see Day 3’s acclimatization hike) because this trek is all about the photography. Our pace is often slow so don’t equate the time on trail as equal in distance to what you walk at home. We spend a lot of time each day stopping when the light makes for beautiful imagery and while we have a destination each day, our true goal is to soak in the mountains and create memorable photos.

We stay in teahouses during the trek and while we have padded bunks in private rooms on which to lay our sleeping bags, they are not in the same class as a fine Tempurpedic bed.
